Mt Fuji

Mt Fuji

The receptionist at the hostel was interested in ensuring that my sightseeing was a success.

In the morning she told me that “today was a good day to see Mt Fuji” and I should go. I could hardly say no, and armed with her instructions as to which train to catch. I headed off.

I had to take a couple of JR Trains before taking another company’s train to Kawaguchi, which is a small town by a lake of the same name. From there I took small walk to a cable car that takes you above the town, with views over the lake and across to Mt Fuji.

The weather was clear, but there was some cloud covering the peak of the mountain. It is a very impressive sight.

My guide book says that 300,000 people climb that mountain each year. It can’t be climbed in winter.

I also understand that it is due to erupt sometime soon. It will certainly be interesting when that happens.

As it turned out, I got better photos of the mountain the next day when I took the train from Tokoy to Nagoya on a very convoluted route to Nagano.
